  • Chrome on Android and iPhone can't run extensions. On phones, the native apps do the filling.
  • There is one app for personal and work use. There is no separate "business" app (see Autothenticator Business and Enterprise).
  • Languages: everything is in English, German, French and Italian. The apps follow the device's language, and the extension can also be set by hand. The apps and website say "du" and "tu" in German and Italian. The admin console, key service and emails use formal "Sie" and "Lei". French is always "vous".

Browser extension features

  • Popup: the codes list, with the matching accounts for the current site at the top.

  • Side panel: the same list beside the page, with a countdown clock (ring, pie, digital and other styles).

  • Fill: an icon in the code box, the popup, the right-click menu (Type in code) or a keyboard shortcut.

  • Automatic fill: when the page shows a code box, and exactly one account matches the site, the code goes in without a click. It's on by default and can be turned off.

  • Auto-submit: off by default. It can be turned on for one site at a time, and then submits once after filling. A refreshed code (one that expired while the box was still on screen) is never submitted.

  • Expired codes: a code that expires before you submit is replaced with the new one.

  • Adding accounts: scan a QR code on the page, use the right-click menu (Add QR code to Autothenticator, Scan QR code on this page…), use the webcam or an image file, paste an otpauth:// link, or type the setup key.

  • Right-click menu: Bind this site to… adds the page's site to an account. Use this field for codes tells it which box to fill on a site it gets wrong.

  • Keyboard shortcuts (they can be changed in the browser's shortcut settings):

    Shortcut What it does
    Alt+Shift+F Fill the code
    Alt+Shift+C Copy the code
    Alt+Shift+A Open the side panel
    Alt+Shift+L Lock the vault
  • Colour themes: Winfrasoft (blue), Teal, Forest, Violet, Rose and Graphite.

  • Safari on iPhone and iPad has no right-click menus, idle detection or keyboard shortcuts, so those features aren't there.

Android app features

  • Android autofill: fills codes in apps and browsers. Android allows one autofill service at a time. Someone who keeps their password manager as the autofill service can still use:
    • a Quick Settings tile, which opens the codes in one tap;
    • an optional notification to copy codes from;
    • copying, with a clipboard Android marks as sensitive.
  • Unlock with a fingerprint, face or the passphrase.
  • Screenshots of the app are blocked, on purpose.
  • Passkey provider on Android 14 and later (see Passkeys in Autothenticator).
  • SMS codes: fills codes from text messages (see Codes from text messages on Android).
  • Automatic backups to a folder you choose (see Moving phones, backups and recovery).

iPhone, iPad and Mac app features

  • AutoFill: codes appear above the keyboard, in Safari and in apps, only where the account is bound. It has to be turned on once, in Settings › General › AutoFill & Passwords; the app walks people through it.
  • Unlock with Face ID, Touch ID or the passphrase. The key is protected by the Secure Enclave.
  • Copying: a copied code stays on this device only (it doesn't go to Universal Clipboard), and it expires.
  • Passkey provider for Safari and apps.
  • Automatic backups to a folder in Files, iCloud Drive by default.
  • SMS codes: Apple fills codes from Messages itself. Apple lets no other app read text messages.
